What Does It FEEL like When You Are Empowered? We asked 3 Women to break it down for us (and you).

3 MINUTE READ

This year for International Women’s Day we wanted to DIG deeper.

‘Empowered’ is a word that we throw around these days and it’s almost (if not already) in ‘buzz word’ territory. But what does it actually mean and more specifically, what does it FEEL like when you are Empowered?

We got curious and asked 4 women what it FEELS like to be empowered.
Check out what said below and check in with yourself on what it FEELS like for you and get connected to that feeling.

What does it feel like when you are Empowered?

When I am empowered I feel connected to my purpose. My work and life are aligned with my definition of success and I feel a deep sense of self-worth. I feel energized, excited and motivated to continue to chase my goals and dreams.
What do you believe about yourself? ie: what do you know to be true about who you are - complete the sentence 'I AM ........ (one word).
I AM caring.
How do you restore yourself?
I restore myself by practising self-love. It is important for my mind, body and soul to feel balanced. I do this through exercise, fuelling my body with nourishing food, having enough rest, spending time with people who inspire me and fill me up and having gratitude towards my life.
What are you grateful for?
I am extremely grateful for the freedom, abundance, people and opportunity that is around me to live a life I love.

What does it feel like when you are empowered?
When I genuinely feel confident about my ability to reach my potential, that is when I know I am empowered.
What do you believe about yourself? ie: what do you know to be true about who you are - complete the sentence 'I AM ........ (one word).
I AM A BELIEVER. I strongly believe that the quality of your life is dependent on the quality of your thoughts, therefore if you believe it, you will achieve it.
How do you restore yourself?
I hit the pause button on the hustle of my responsibilities, I spend time with my husband, 2 kids and puppy, we have dance parties and belly laughs on the regular. Every night we give thanks for all of our great fortune.
What are you grateful for?
Family is always #1, working for a progressive company that gives me balance, living in the land of equal opportunity and of course good health.

What does it feel like when you are most alive (Empowered doesn’t resonate with me as I don’t need someone to give me permission to execute my power)?
I’m most alive when I’m living my values of learning from a variety of leaders and organizations; speaking and acting with integrity; and traveling the world to discover new cultures.
What do you believe about yourself? ie: what do you know to be true about who you are - complete the sentence 'I AM ........ (one word).
I am LOVE.
How do you restore yourself?
Spin x3 days a week; listen to Katy Perry’s song Firework; stretch; eat a kale Caesar salad from @turf; walk my dog through the UBC endowment lands.
What are you grateful for?
I’m grateful for the time I’ve put back into my life. I get to work on meaningful projects with great leaders in purposeful organizations; travel to 5 new countries this year and pick my kids up from school. I’ve redesigned my life to work for me.

What does it feel like when you are Empowered?
When I am able to successfully integrate all the parts of me - individual, mother, partner, friend, professional, leader,  citizen, student, adventurer.  It’s a day by day thing - def a work in progress.
And also when I am able to help another woman do the same.
What do you believe about yourself? ie: what do you know to be true about who you are - complete the sentence 'I AM ........ (one word).
I AM Fierce.
How do you restore yourself?
An uninterrupted night’s sleep and a good cup of coffee, early in the morning, before the house wakes up.  (I have a 4yr old and a 1yr old.  At the moment, that’s about as much self care as I get on the regular)
What are you grateful for?
So much.  Family that is healthy.  Love.  My support network 🙏🙏. This spectacular city that I get to call home. The sheer luck that is mine to be a woman in this time and place in history. And for every day that I get to try harder. Do (or fail) better.  And try again the next day.
